Tracing the journey of collaboration and innovation in thoracic oncology across the Nordic countries

The Journey of NTOG

The Nordic Thoracic Oncology Group (NTOG) was established in 1993 as a collaborative network of thoracic oncology specialists from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Recognizing the need for a unified approach to tackle lung cancer—a leading cause of cancer-related mortality in the Nordic region—NTOG was formed to advance research, improve patient care, and foster professional collaboration across borders.

Early Years and Formation

In the early 1990s, thoracic oncology professionals from the Nordic countries began informal collaborations to share knowledge and resources. The success of these initial interactions highlighted the potential benefits of a formal network. Thus, NTOG was officially founded in 1993, providing a structured platform for joint clinical trials, research projects, and educational initiatives.
